This year, the available allocation for Transferable Tax Credit (CINA)<\/strong> granted to foreign productions carried out in Colombia amounts to COP 350 billion (approximately USD 90 million)<\/strong>, representing a 49% increase compared to 2025\u2014the highest since the incentive was created<\/strong>. This growth reaffirms the National Government\u2019s confidence in the performance of Law 1556<\/strong> and in the continued growth of Colombia\u2019s audiovisual sector. This effort is complemented by the announcement of the Colombia Film Fund (FFC) allocation for 2026<\/strong>, which will reach COP 6.68 billion (approximately USD 2 million)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As an initial performance overview, the behavior of the CINA system in the first weeks of the year<\/strong> shows an early and strong application dynamic<\/strong>. As of January 2026, projects submitted for evaluation already represent 29% of the available budget<\/strong>\u2014an indicator of advance planning by productions<\/strong> and of Colombia\u2019s consolidation as a competitive territory<\/strong> for the development of audiovisual works.<\/p>\n

This momentum takes place within an audiovisual sector that in recent years has welcomed both the production of local stories<\/strong> and the execution of large-scale international productions<\/strong>. Among the beneficiaries of Law 1556 that have brought Colombian content to global audiences are Netflix productions such as One Hundred Years of Solitude<\/em>, Delirio<\/em>, State of Escape<\/em>, Simply Alicia<\/em>, and The Guest<\/em>. This landscape is further strengthened by international productions filmed in Colombia, including The Last Photograph<\/em>, directed by Zack Snyder<\/em>, and The Night Manager<\/em>, starring Tom Hiddleston<\/em> and released on Amazon Prime on January 11<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to 2026, this momentum continues with the release of new projects featuring significant technical and narrative scope<\/strong>, such as the second season of One Hundred Years of Solitude<\/em><\/strong>, the third season of Betty la Fea: The Story Continues<\/em><\/strong>, the docuseries on James Rodr\u00edguez<\/em><\/strong>, the series Palacio<\/em>, and the final seasons of Medusa<\/em>, False Profile<\/em>, and The First Time<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the incentives and the growth of production services, the industry has been transformed<\/strong>: today we have highly professionalized local talent<\/strong> and a strong creative backbone<\/strong>, with projects such as La Reina del Sur<\/em> (CINA), which is now preparing for its next installment,\u201d says Claudia Pedraza<\/strong>, Director of Estado de Fuga<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The consolidation of the sector is further supported by the firsthand experience of international productions<\/strong>. Matthew Patnick<\/strong>, executive producer of the second season of The Night Manager<\/em>, notes that the tax incentive is highly favorable for productions coming to the country<\/strong>. Additionally, Rodrigo Guerrero<\/strong>, Director of AG Studios<\/strong>\u2014the company in charge of production\u2014highlighted: \u201cIn projects like The Night Manager<\/em> and State of Escape<\/em>, we saw Colombian crews working at the same level as international teams<\/strong>. On a set of more than 400 people, only 80 were foreigners<\/strong>, many of them with experience in major productions. This clearly demonstrates the level the Colombian audiovisual industry has reached<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking about her experience within Colombia\u2019s current audiovisual ecosystem, actress, director, and screenwriter Estefan\u00eda Pi\u00f1eres<\/strong> shares: \u201cFor a long time, I thought that to succeed as an actress I had to go to Hollywood, that success meant acting in English. But in recent years, the most beautiful thing has been wanting to stay<\/strong>, because there are new proposals and new narratives<\/strong>. Today, projects don\u2019t just arrive from abroad\u2014they are also born from within<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

For 2026, the incentive maintains an expanded vision<\/strong> that incorporates post-production, animation, and video game projects<\/strong>, strengthening the country\u2019s specialized service offerings<\/strong> and broadening opportunities across the audiovisual industry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The CINA system<\/strong> is a key tool for attracting investment<\/strong>, generating qualified employment<\/strong>, and enabling knowledge transfer<\/strong>, while also strengthening local capacities<\/strong> and positioning Colombia as a setting for stories with international reach<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince 2020, the CINA incentive has brought 165 international audiovisual projects to Colombia<\/strong>, with investments exceeding COP 3.4 trillion (USD 861 million)<\/strong> and the direct hiring of more than 130,000 people<\/strong>.
