One Hundred Years of Solitude<\/em>, the Netflix series inspired by Gabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez\u2019s<\/strong> masterpiece and recipient of Colombia\u2019s CINA Transferable Tax Credit<\/strong>, will premiere its second installment on August 5.<\/p>\n

On December 11, 2024, Netflix premiered the first installment of One Hundred Years of Solitude<\/em>, a series supported through Colombia\u2019s Law 1556 and directed by Laura Mora and Alex Garc\u00eda L\u00f3pez. Based on Gabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez\u2019s iconic novel<\/strong>, the production established itself as one of the most ambitious audiovisual projects ever undertaken in Latin America, bringing together the richness of a literary classic with contemporary audiovisual storytelling. On August 5, the platform will release the second installment, consisting of seven episodes directed once again by Laura Mora, this time alongside Colombian filmmaker Carlos Moreno.<\/p>\n

Filmed across the Colombian departments of Magdalena, Boyac\u00e1, Cundinamarca and Tolima, the series will include the episodes The Armistice<\/em> and The Queen of Madagascar<\/em>, followed by Fernanda del Carpio<\/em> and The Innocent Train Had Arrived<\/em>, as well as It Was an Eleventh of October<\/em>, There Were More Than Three Thousand<\/em>, and It Rained for Four Years, Eleven Months and Two Days<\/em><\/strong>. The series will conclude on August 26 with its final episode, One Hundred Years of Solitude<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach episode of this second installment feels like a feature film. We took the series to another level in terms of aesthetics, storytelling, sound, and music to create a much more cinematic and emotional ending. After living in that house and that town for three years, we felt that closing this journey had to feel just as grand, epic, and cinematic,\u201d<\/em> said Laura Mora.<\/p>\n

This second installment unfolds amid political tensions, the transformation of Macondo, and the inevitable fate of the Buend\u00eda family. According to the official synopsis, after the signing of the armistice, peace will not come to Macondo<\/strong>. The Conservatives, fearful of Colonel Aureliano Buend\u00eda\u2019s threats, plot an assassination attempt that, through a twist of fate, brings Fernanda del Carpio from Bogot\u00e1 to the town. After marrying Aureliano Segundo, one of the twin sons of Arcadio\u2019s illegitimate lineage, she gives \u00darsula Iguar\u00e1n her first legitimate descendants. Meanwhile, Jos\u00e9 Arcadio Segundo, the other twin, fulfills the patriarch\u2019s greatest dream by connecting Macondo with the outside world. The arrival of the train opens the door to the banana company, unleashing the forces that will lead to the town\u2019s downfall and fulfilling \u00darsula Iguar\u00e1n\u2019s curse: \u201craces condemned to one hundred years of solitude did not have a second opportunity on earth.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The main cast returns alongside new talent. Marleyda Soto and Claudio Cata\u00f1o reprise their roles as \u00darsula Iguar\u00e1n and Colonel Aureliano Buend\u00eda, while new cast members include \u00c1ngela Cano, Emmanuel Restrepo, Estefan\u00eda Pi\u00f1eres, Mar\u00eda Adelaida Puerta, Emiliano Pern\u00eda, Juanita Molina, Laura Taylor, Obeida Benavides, Juli\u00e1n Rom\u00e1n, and Carla Baratta, among others.<\/p>\n

Francisco Ramos, Netflix\u2019s Vice President of Content for Latin America, commented<\/strong>: \u201cIn just seven years, we went from producing small local projects to developing a series like One Hundred Years of Solitude<\/strong>. The series was produced by Dynamo and once again received Colombia\u2019s\u00a0CINA Transferable Tax Credit<\/strong>, granted by the Colombian Government and administered by Proim\u00e1genes Colombia.
