TEATRO TOLIMA

Declared a National Monument by Decree 708 of April 17, 1996. It is a property of Republican architecture, replaced in 1938 following the plans of the Cuéllar Serrano Gómez firm, executed by the Italian engineer Antonio Bernardi, 80 years ago. These changes erased the historicist style of the Torres Theater and transformed it into the Art Deco-style Tolima Theater. It has a full capacity of 1000 spectators. It features a removable wooden floor for stage effects, all supported on a metal structure base. In the front of the stage, a pit with a hydraulic platform was built to accommodate an orchestra with a capacity for 55 musicians. There is also another hydraulic platform located at the back and on the right side of the stage to store the piano specially acquired by the Theater. The stage, specifically the stage box, is concealed with a guillotine-type opening curtain.
