U.S. studios visit Colombia in search of new locations and production opportunities

The Colombia Film Commission organized its first familiarization trip of the year, held from March 31 to April 4, bringing together prominent representatives of the international audiovisual industry. The goal: to showcase the diversity of locations that position the country as a unique filming destination. Over the course of a week, producers and executives from six international studios explored key locations and forged strategic connections with local partners and industry players in Bogotá, Medellín, and Cartagena.

Representatives from Hammerstone Studios, Catchlight Studios, About, Gaumont, Centropolis Entertainment, and Angostura Inc. participated in the tour, experiencing firsthand Colombia’s competitive advantages in terms of infrastructure, diverse landscapes, and tax incentives for audiovisual production.

The journey began in Bogotá with a visit to emblematic landmarks such as the Colpatria Tower, Chorro de Quevedo, and La Candelaria. In the afternoon, the guests toured the studios of TIS Productions alongside commercial director Federico Devis, and wrapped up the day with a welcome dinner.

On the second day, a round of one-on-one meetings was held with twelve Colombian companies: Rhayuela Films, Dynamo, 64A Films, AG Studios Colombia, Miracol Media, Jaguar Bite, WideAngle Films, Teleset, Caracol Televisión, Laberinto, RCN Televisión, and 11:11 Films. These meetings allowed for the identification of shared interests and the start of conversations around potential co-productions and content development.

Continuing the agenda, the international guests—accompanied by the Medellín Film Commission—visited Telemedellín studios and explored locations such as the Metrocable, Parques del Río, Comuna 13, and La Alpujarra, offering a view of the city’s urban landscape, mobility systems, and filming potential.

The trip concluded in Cartagena, where the group visited the nearby islands, explored the historic center, and shared a closing dinner. The experience wrapped up with a breakfast meeting with Netflix, marking the end of a week that sparked new conversations and opportunities for filming in Colombia.

Marco Shepherd, President of Centropolis Entertainment, reflected on the experience: “This week has been fascinating; seeing how Colombia has evolved into an incredible hub for production has been very valuable. We’re excited to explore opportunities to shoot our projects here. We’ll definitely be back, and not just for work—I fell in love with Colombia, the people, the culture, and of course, the locations. It’s a truly enchanting country, and one I recommend everyone to visit.”

This famtrip is part of our ongoing efforts at the Colombia Film Commission to position the country as a competitive, diverse, and attractive audiovisual hub. Through coordinated work with our partners, we continue to strengthen investment opportunities in the sector and build strategic relationships with key players in the global industry.
