Description
The Zapatosa Swamp is the largest inland freshwater wetland in Colombia. It covers an area of between 30,000 and 40,000 hectares in summer and 70,000 hectares in winter. It is located between the municipalities of Chimichagua, Tamalameque (Cesar), and El Banco (Magdalena), formed by the Cesar River a few kilometers before its mouth and belonging to the area known as the Momposina Depression. The Alfaro sector is visited by local fishermen, who keep their canoes on the shore. Land access via unpaved roads in good condition, with ample parking and nearby properties where a production base with tents can be set up. Wi-Fi, restrooms, and toilets are not available.
