Based on the true story of the 33 Chilean miners whose rescue from the San José mine, Chile, in 2010, captured the world’s attention. The 33 dramatize the event from the perspective of the miners below, and their families and rescuers on the mine surface.
August 5, 2010 was a day like any other, men mined minerals and reinforced tunnels from the deepest levels of the mine about 700 meters underground. Shortly after their lunch break, the men began to hear loud moans emanating from the mountain, the beginning of a catastrophic collapse. The heart of the mine, a block twice the size of the Empire State Building, fell off each level of the mine.
As the dust settled, the men recognized that La Rampa, their only way out of the mine, had disappeared. They were trapped and the only food they had would be enough for just 22 men for 2 days.
