Colombia Film Commission and The Night Manager nominated for LMGI Awards

News

The second season of The Night Manager (Amazon Prime Video) and the Colombia Film Commission have both received nominations at the LMGI Awards, presented annually by the Location Managers Guild International to recognize excellence in locations, film commissions, and audiovisual productions from around the world.

The Colombia Film Commission, an initiative of Proimágenes Colombia, has been nominated for the first time in the Outstanding Film Commission / Office category, which honors organizations that promote and facilitate audiovisual productions in their territories. The Commission's submission was based on The Night Manager as its reference project and highlighted the support provided throughout the production's development in Colombia, including guidance on the CINA incentive, coordination with local institutions such as the Medellín Film Commission, and connections with key industry stakeholders across the regions where filming took place.

For Carlos Vélez, Location Manager for The Night Manager, the support of Colombia's film commissions was instrumental to the success of the production.

"One of our biggest challenges was filming during Medellín's Flower Festival. We had a crew of nearly 400 people, and securing the necessary permits was only possible thanks to the joint efforts of the Colombia Film Commission, the Medellín Film Commission, and the Antioquia Film Commission. They also helped us open doors, connect with local partners, and solve many logistical challenges that were essential to the project."

Meanwhile, The Night Manager is also nominated in the Outstanding Locations in a Contemporary TV Series category, which recognizes the creative and logistical work behind identifying, securing, and managing locations for a production. This award highlights the contribution of location teams in shaping the visual world of a series—from scouting and selecting locations to adapting and coordinating them throughout production.

Starring Tom Hiddleston, the second season was filmed in Medellín, Cartagena, Nilo, and Girardot, with the participation of 326 Colombian crew members and production services provided by AG Studios. As a beneficiary of Colombia's Transferable Tax Credit (CINA), the series found in Colombia the diversity of settings required by the story, including nature-surrounded haciendas, modern cities, and Caribbean landscapes.

Crew The Night Manager

The location scouting process began in September 2023, taking the team across several regions of the country to build the series' visual universe. Although much of the production was initially expected to take place in Bogotá, exploring other cities ultimately led the team to locations that better matched the project's creative vision.

"It is an honor that this nomination shines a light on the work of Colombian location managers, which often goes unnoticed but is essential for international productions coming to the country. We study locations, interpret stories, and find the right places to bring them to life. Colombia offers an extraordinary diversity of architecture, rivers, jungles, beaches, and cities, and that is what attracts international productions and keeps them coming back," said Vélez.

These nominations come at a time when Colombia continues to strengthen its position as a destination for international audiovisual production. The combination of competitive incentives, diverse filming locations, and highly skilled local crews has enabled major international productions to choose the country as a filming destination, with results that are now being recognized on one of the industry's most prestigious international stages.
