Following a rigorous selection process that lasted more than a month, carried out in partnership with a human talent management firm, Proimágenes Colombia announces that Diego Bustos will lead the Colombia Film Commission moving forward, one of its key programs and a driving force behind the country’s audiovisual promotion efforts. This appointment marks the beginning of a new institutional chapter, following Silvia Echeverri’s decision to step down from the position to embark on a well-deserved personal chapter after more than 27 years of work at the organization.
An economist and professional in Finance and International Trade, Diego Bustos has more than 13 years of experience in the cultural sector, including over a decade dedicated to strengthening Proimágenes Colombia. Throughout his career, he has held strategic positions such as Deputy Director of Planning and, subsequently, Deputy Director of International Promotion of the Colombia Film Commission, allowing him to develop a deep and comprehensive understanding of both the organization and the broader audiovisual ecosystem.
Continuity and Strategic Vision
In his new role, the new director will continue representing the organization in high-level dialogues with national and international partners. He is recognized for his strong relationship-building skills, his ability to foster trust, and his capacity to build bridges across sectors, aligning diverse perspectives around shared objectives. With his leadership, recognized for contributing to institutional transformation processes, he will bring a strategic vision and comprehensive understanding of the Commission’s operations.
He also has a strong understanding of the technical particularities and creative processes of audiovisual production. This sensitivity, combined with his ability to translate complex analytical information into concrete decisions, makes him a key asset in advancing the industry’s development.
In his new role at the Colombia Film Commission, his main objective and commitment will be clear: to consolidate Colombia as a leading destination for productions of different formats and budgets, strengthening the sector’s competitiveness and positioning the country as an unavoidable global reference in the audiovisual industry.
A Legacy of Impact and Transformation
Proimágenes Colombia extends its deepest gratitude to Silvia Echeverri for more than two decades of dedication and vision across several strategic roles, including her leadership of the Colombia Film Commission. Silvia, an economist and Master’s in Economic Law, has been a fundamental figure in the development of Colombia’s audiovisual ecosystem.
Under her leadership at the Film Commission, Colombia consolidated its position as a world-class filming destination. Between June 2013 and June 2026, her work enabled 250 national and international productions to access the incentives established under Law 1556 of 2012 (CINA and FFC), generating an estimated investment in the country of COP 4.3 trillion (approximately USD 1.1 billion).
Her work was instrumental in shaping public policy around audiovisual incentives and promoting the growth of regional film commissions, leaving behind a strong incentive framework and a regional reach that has had an impact across a significant number of Colombia’s departments.
